A Weekend of Firsts

This weekend was a great one, one filled with many firsts.

It started with Maura and Maggie attending their first "big girl" sleepover. They spent the night at the Smith's house with their best friends Isabel and Chloe (and babysitters, as the Smith's were coming to our 6th annual St.Patty's Day party!). They were so excited to go; they kept talking about it all day. I was supposed to take them over around 6:00. At 5:00 we started to get them in their PJs. We got the girls all matching pajamas for the party. (Katie's idea, unfortunately, Eli could not come b/c Adeline got sick.) As soon as the jammies were on, forget about it. They were ready to go. They each had their rolling backpacks. Maura was wearing hers (they are full sized, so not easy for her to do), so obviously Mags wanted to wear hers. So she put it on, and immediately toppled over. That wasn't slowing her down. They were standing at the car yelling for me to come on. I forgot to feed them dinner (great mom!) so I made them nuggets for the road. Mind you, these girls don't eat. I said they had to be finished before we got to Jenn's house if they wanted to go to the sleepover. Mo had hers finished before we got out of our neighborhood; Mags was soon after. When we arrived, they ran right inside and got started. I took some pictures, tried to give them some motherly advice, and walked out pretty happy about a night without the girls. However, as soon as I was in the car, I couldn't help but get emotional. My girls are growing up! It kills me how old they seem sometimes. I think it is easier because I have a baby still, but jeez, they are growing so darn fast. I was also very proud that they went so easily. Proud that they are confident to do that. I heard a someone saying the other day that she wanted to be the woman that she wanted her daughters to be. I totally agree with that. I have to remind myself that all the time. I am setting an example all the time. I was also happy that we have such good friends that our girls feel so comfortable with. I really appreciate our friendship with the Smiths and hope it continues to be as strong, for both the parents and the girls (and maybe a boy soon!).

It was also B's first St. Patty's day party. She was adorable, but a little fussy. That is so not like her. I figured out why on Sunday. Sean noticed she got HER FIRST TOOTH! Go B! I said it was going to happen when she was eight months, and boy was I right. She turned eight months on Sunday. She kept feeling it with her tongue all day. It was very cute.

The girls also had a great time with their Aunt Colleen. Although we see Colleen often, it was one of the first times I thought they really got to spend quality time with her. They loved it. Mags still asks where Colleen and Dave are... like she is expecting them to be upstairs or something. They will get to see them in two weeks when we head to DC for Colleen's marathon. Go Coll!

I'm still so bummed we missed the whole weekend. Damn that Adeline and her ear infections and head wounds!

Do you guys need a place to stay before Colleen's marathon? You are always welcome here!
