Public Speaking
So Mo had to give her first speech at school yesterday. Although she is off the wall at home, she is very quiet at school, though she does play great with her friends. I was a bit nervous for her. Over spring break she had her first homework assignment, which was a poster all about her. It asked for favorite colors, food, etc. We filled that out. She then had to present it to the class. We practiced at home and she did great.
I could not believe it when her teacher said Maura had presented it to the class with no problem. Of course, her teacher is so laid back and casual, I am not sure how accurate, no problem was, but she did it. Good for you Maura!

Little Parrot
Today Maura was not being nice to Mags (don't know how or why) and Maggie said, "You need be nice to me. I your sister."
I love it! At least I know she hears some things I say.

The Weekend of 100 Eggs
What a fabulous Easter weekend we had. Our family, including my parents, headed down to the Homestead Resort in Hot Springs VA. It is a beautiful old resort. Makes you want to go to afternoon tea... and indeed we did! Sean's parents' owners club has a site there, so we used their time and spent the weekend. It was relaxing, but fun filled too.
The girls went to two Easter Egg Hunts there (they had already done two at home this year, so they are pretty much pros). They had tons of eggs. The first was at the Owners Club on Saturday... each girl got about 25 or more eggs... all packed with candy. Then Maura *found* the silver egg so she got a HUGE basket full of gifts, stuffed animal, movie, ball, bubbles, and of course... more candy. Then each child got a big goodie bag... can we say sugar overload? Unfortunately, I think Mommy ate more than the girls! The rest of Saturday we had fun cooking at the house and just hanging out. My parents went on a nice hike. We went swimming in the mineral water pool (whatever that means), went for walks and to the playground. we played in the garden. It was a great day. Then to top it off, my parents watched the girls and Sean and I got to go out for drinks, Golden Tee and a game of pool.
Sunday the girls woke up to a scavenger hunt around the house with a prize waiting for them at each new site with a new clue (thanks mom and dad) ending with their baskets. They had a blast and got lots of goodies. We went to the little chapel right there. It is very tiny, about 10 pews on each side, just our family could fit in a pew. We sat in the first row and were about four feet from the altar. it was quaint though. After that the hotel had an excellent balloon maker and, of course, another hunt on the lawn. There were literally thousands of eggs. So many that the girls were standing amongst many of them and said (quote from Mo) "I think I have enough." Really? We adults were shocked. But thanks goodness because these eggs were filled with little junks. So another 50 (at least) eggs came home with us.
That afternoon, while mags and B took naps, Mo and I went to the theater in the hotel to see "here Comes Peter Cottontail" (pretty disturbing if you ask me). We then played games in the game room (Mo's version of chess/house) and did puzzles. And, of course, followed it all up with afternoon tea with my parents. It really was lovely, and Maura acted so "adult" a little too adult if you ask me. That night, after another swim in the pool, we had a great Easter dinner. We then put the girls to bed and sat around and chatted with my parents by the fire. It was just a perfect weekend.
The next morning we hopped back in the car for another looooong ride (about 9.5 down, with stops, and 8 back). I have to say that the girls were great in the car. I hope to do it again next year, but maybe stay a little longer.

A Weekend of Firsts
This weekend was a great one, one filled with many firsts.
It started with Maura and Maggie attending their first "big girl" sleepover. They spent the night at the Smith's house with their best friends Isabel and Chloe (and babysitters, as the Smith's were coming to our 6th annual St.Patty's Day party!). They were so excited to go; they kept talking about it all day. I was supposed to take them over around 6:00. At 5:00 we started to get them in their PJs. We got the girls all matching pajamas for the party. (Katie's idea, unfortunately, Eli could not come b/c Adeline got sick.) As soon as the jammies were on, forget about it. They were ready to go. They each had their rolling backpacks. Maura was wearing hers (they are full sized, so not easy for her to do), so obviously Mags wanted to wear hers. So she put it on, and immediately toppled over. That wasn't slowing her down. They were standing at the car yelling for me to come on. I forgot to feed them dinner (great mom!) so I made them nuggets for the road. Mind you, these girls don't eat. I said they had to be finished before we got to Jenn's house if they wanted to go to the sleepover. Mo had hers finished before we got out of our neighborhood; Mags was soon after. When we arrived, they ran right inside and got started. I took some pictures, tried to give them some motherly advice, and walked out pretty happy about a night without the girls. However, as soon as I was in the car, I couldn't help but get emotional. My girls are growing up! It kills me how old they seem sometimes. I think it is easier because I have a baby still, but jeez, they are growing so darn fast. I was also very proud that they went so easily. Proud that they are confident to do that. I heard a someone saying the other day that she wanted to be the woman that she wanted her daughters to be. I totally agree with that. I have to remind myself that all the time. I am setting an example all the time. I was also happy that we have such good friends that our girls feel so comfortable with. I really appreciate our friendship with the Smiths and hope it continues to be as strong, for both the parents and the girls (and maybe a boy soon!).
It was also B's first St. Patty's day party. She was adorable, but a little fussy. That is so not like her. I figured out why on Sunday. Sean noticed she got HER FIRST TOOTH! Go B! I said it was going to happen when she was eight months, and boy was I right. She turned eight months on Sunday. She kept feeling it with her tongue all day. It was very cute.
The girls also had a great time with their Aunt Colleen. Although we see Colleen often, it was one of the first times I thought they really got to spend quality time with her. They loved it. Mags still asks where Colleen and Dave are... like she is expecting them to be upstairs or something. They will get to see them in two weeks when we head to DC for Colleen's marathon. Go Coll!

Cutest Thing
The other night we were out to dinner at Aronomink, letting the girls run wild, and they ran off to the bathroom area. About 5 minutes later I noticed they had not returned. I walked over to the lobby outside the bathrooms, and the doors were all closed. Now Maura is fully potty trained but refuses to wipe. Maggie is potty *trained*. We, however, are not at the point where, in public places, we say "just go to the bathroom girls." (soon, I hope!) Well, I listened at the door of the ladies room and could hear two sweet little voices. I opened the door, and Mags was sitting on the toilet. Mo had her hands placed gently on Mags knees saying something sweet. They both looked up at the intruder who had just invaded their privacy. Maura says, "Mommy, we're fine. I am taking care of Maggie. You can go back to the table." I replied, "How about if I just stand out here and you call me when Mags needs to be wiped?" "Nope, Mom, I got it." So I close the door all but a crack. I watch the rest of the interaction. Maura helps Mags off the toilet, all the while talking in her sweet you-are-a-baby-I-am-a-big-girl voice. Lifts her up to wash her hands; washes her own hands; grabs them each a towel. She then takes Mag's hand and leads her out of the bathroom. Maybe we are closer then we thought to just sending them on their way!

Big Girls' Weekend
My parents took Bridget for the weekend, so we had a "Big Girls" weekend at our house this weekend. I am not sure how "big girl" it was but we sure did use that phrase a lot whenever anyone started to cry or whine, or act baby-like in general. We went out to dinner at Aronimink on Friday night. I like going there because the girls can run around a little a no one says anything (at least to us, I am sure they say it behind our back). At one point the lights all dimmed very low. I thought "Hmm, trying to set a romantic atmosphere" but then I quickly realized it was Maggie standing over in the corner on the chair who had indeed set the atmosphere. A few minutes later the sound system was jacked up... Maggie again. Yes, they were definitely talking about us behind our backs.
On Saturday we went to Oasis Play Center. It has a huge soft gym with slides and ropes, and all kinds of fun things. It is like a McDonald's playland on crack (and clean!). The girls loved it. They were pretty independent too. Sean and I both said we should have brought our reading material! At one point I did climb to the top of the apparatus to the entrance of a pretty big, enclosed, spiral slide. I said "Maura, I don't know about this. Mommy is a little scared." She replied "Don't be scared Mommy. Stay close to me and you'll be sound and safe." too cute. She then proceeded to wait for me at every turn to make sure I was okay. I'll admit, it was a little scary.
Maggie was on fire there. She was on her own most of the time and non-stop. Maura got a little tired and preferred someone with her. Not Maggie, she would get to the top while you were still climbing up, and she was gone... no time to wait for you. We followed that outing with a trip to the Nifty Fifties Diner. It was fun, but the torrential downpour kind of put a damper on the day.
When we got B back today she seemed so big. She was laughing and smiling the whole night. She really is a sweetheart. My parents said she was great. It took her a while to warm up to them, but was great after that. B has started to have a little separation anxiety lately. She definitely is constantly checking to make sure I am near her, especially if a stranger is looking at her. She used to smile at anyone, not so much anymore. You have to make sure B gets Mommy's approval first. On another note, B is eating great now, and she absolutely loves to eat. She gets so excited when you sit her down for dinner.... My kind of girl!

Running Commentary
Maggie is a funny girl. She is constantly talking (or screaming). If you go for a car ride with her, it is much more interesting to turn down the radio and listen to her. Her "conversation" with herself goes something like this...
"I feed my baby"
"White car"
"Lights. Lots of lights. Where those lights?"
"Yellow car on my side. My side. Not Maura's side. Yellow Car"
"My baby is hungry."
"Milk store. I want milk. Milk. Milk. I like milk"
"My baby is hungry. She wants milk"
This could go on for hours. I think she gets it from Sean. When we are watching one of my shows he usually does the same thing, pointing out how stupid my show is.

Good times, good friends
This weekend was a very busy one. I finished up my "cheerleading career." The girls will be psyched that I will not be leaving them to go to "my" school anymore for cheerleading. As soon as the competition was over, we headed to the Short's house in Virginia. Maura and Maggie had been looking forward to it all week. they made their friends crafts and could not stop talking about them. There are many great things about visiting them, but one of the greatest, is that the girls just get along so darn well. It actually is kind of strange. they do not see each other for months at a time, but as soon as they get together (mainly Mo and E) they start holding hands and talking like they see each other weekly. There are never any fights to break up (except for the occasional ones between Mo and Mags). They had a sleep over in E's room in their blow up sleeping bags. I checked on them, and they were both in their respective bed, where they were told they had to stay, but sitting up, facing away from each other, reading books aloud. Maura was reading Brown bear, not sure about E, she was facing the other way. It really was just too cute. Last time we got together with them, Mags was trying to keep up and couldn't quite yet. This time she was right in there and A was struggling to fit in with the "Big Girls."
We then headed to a Bowling party for Logan's 5th birthday. It was quite fun. mo was excited every time she "scored" Mags was afraid at first, but then started running around to visit people in all the other lanes. All the kids had a great time. We then headed to P&K's to see the renovations, and the Silver Diner for dinner. I do love me some diner food. We are home now and ready for bed. The girls feel asleep in the car and got carried up to their beds, all three! that was sweet. let's hope this weekend wore them out and they sleep in till, let's say 7:30 tomorrow.!?!?!?
